"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Benjamin Franklin

A:

Saying "it's all Bush's fault" is an annoying response but one which some conservatives are just as guilty of as some liberals, only the names change. Those who disapprove of the president too often resort to questioning where he was born, what his religion is and numerous patronizing references to Kool-Aid and the Messiah

Conservatism as preached by many today claims liberals favor an activist government and conservatism does not, when in fact conservatives promote activist governments that favor the people at the top rung of the social and economic ladder. It gives us hawks who never served in the armed forces, closeted gays who are the most publicly homophobic people in the nation and people who preach the sanctity of all human life and then commit murder.

Barry Goldwater, often called the father of modern conservatism, found that the influence of the Christian right on conservatism had made the movement totally at odds with his views. He said the Republican party should stand for freedom, not regulating people's personal lives.
