Should, that's the key word.
It should have as many as fits your budget. Anything over 4 megapixels is gravy.
Film still has way better resolution than any digital camera, so manufacturers should continue to improve the quality of their cameras.
It's not about how well the human eye can see, but how well the resolution of the picture holds up under enlargement.

As an Industrial Test Equipment , most quality cameras have high megapixels than low a quality camera. If you are looking for a good pocket camera, choose the one that has higher megapixels.
