Look for talent shows and clubs with open mike nights. Make a demo tape and take it around to small clubs and such where they have the option to present unknown performers.

You can post a clip of yourself playing/singing on youtube or start a facebook page. If people think your work is good you can get offers this way.

I would most recommend making an artists page on myspace. You can upload the song on the myspace as long as the files are on your myspace. Then tell all your friends to add you, post advertisements for your band or solo career. Then try to get gigs at nearby clubs. if this doesnt help i would try to sighn to a record label and get further advice.

You should try to participate in some talent hunt shows around your location.
