How can I play Guitar acoustic with out figer tips hurting , new at playing Guitar.

As a newbie to learning to play Acustic guitar and many have been helpfult with chords etc . I have a question need help with, My left finger tips for playing the acoustic guitar fret . The Srings when trying to play a chord after afew minutes my finger tips the strings are like cutting deep into tip of fingers. and sore to press on the chords to get them clear when figer tips hurt. I am praticing 15 minutes 4 times a day hoping that these brief periods at 3 to 4 times a day trying the chrods will harden my finger tips. O don't know why they just dont sell sometype of protective removable tips for the fret finger tips. really this way one can play the chrods with more prssure and wont hurt and be new at playing . I know 4 to 6 chords now but have to stop after 15 minutes do to painin finger tips. with some type finger tip cover I would be able to play these cords with no discomfort. And would know the chord is correct by sound. do they sell any type of finger tips to shield fingers tips from hurting? if not, Will my idea of daily practicing 15 mintues 3 to 4 times a day reduce finger tip pain and haden them in how long. so I can pratice chords pain free and practice till chrods nice an clear and move on to some simple songs. typing right now left finger tips have lines in them from strings and throb Ouch, I am hopefull you fo;ls who have given me advise on chords etc mite have some advised on this matter . Going to soak my finger tips in ice , LOL, past 2 days made then tender sore.

sorry about the pain ... but that is the cost involved in learning guitar!  just keep playing every day and this issue will soon be a bad memory ... it really does go away, but it takes a little time... and will return if you take breaks of too many days 'off' between playing sessions.

My son has 3 guitars, 1 of which is acoustic, he too had that same problem.  He said he toned down how long he plays, and more frequent.  I know that he was hurting so bad at one time he thought about getting rid of his guitars.  But hey hang in there and good luck!

Get some nylon strings. When your fingertips toughen, change back to steel. And reread the above posts.

Guitar Jay knows a few of the chords.

A penny saved  is a penny earned

Hi rocket

Know how you feel.  My uncle gave me his old guitar that sat in my closet for years.  I met  guy that played and decided to learn.  I would hurt so much.  Later from playing around i started to get serious.  My friend believed in me.  Were country people that play country music.  Anyway i went and stayed at his house for 2 weeks.  I was not allowed to cook, was dishes.  You have ro build those callous up on your hand.I was sitting out side playing and singing and hurt like heck.I started talking about how my fingers were hurting and he called me over to look at them and said,  i dont seblood=  go back side and keep playing.  When you see blood you can come in.  He was a nice person,  he just knew the ropes of how to train me.  He did a very good job.  He got one of his friends to give me singing lessons.  Those were the good years.  Going different places playing music.  He has passed on   but i will never forget that he told me that.  Water will soften those calaous's.  So keep them tought.  You can still take shower's   lol  lolSurprised  I accepted your invite for contact.  Thanks.  I joined aug 26 of this year and i love it,  met some mity fine people.  All my children  play music.   It is alot of fun to sit in with people to play whether you know them or not.  That's the best way to learn  " with other people " after you get your basic.  My first song to learn with out a mistake was   amazing grace.  My 2nd was   you are my sunshine cause my uncle use to play that for me all the time..  Good luck rockett and just toughed up your fingers.  I have short fingers so it was very hard for me.At least you are excerizing your fingers if your typing.  Thats good for them for strecting.  Ask   if you need a answer, if i can help.  When i started,  i drew a big hand aput the cord on that fingers  well several hands.  Like if you are playing a song with c-d-g-  put what finger for that cord on that hand  curl yur fingers on the hand.  Hard to explain but you should know or figure it out,.  Are a lefty or righty.  Makes a big difference.  Keep your fingernauls very short.  It makes it easier. Very very vert short.  It bothered me.  Lol

God bless and happy playing.  Keep in touch

How much typing do you do? Anything you do with fingertips can increase the hurt.  Your strings could be too stiff, and the frets on that particular guitar too sharp-edged for a beginner.  There is also the possibility that the guitar is tuned too high, making the strings extra-stiff.  Tuning the guitar lower, like from E down to D, and A down to G could help;  it is much easier to press down strings when they are looser, and should build up callouses quicker, without as much pain.           Your idea might work, but keep track of anything else you do with your fingers, like typing.  Combining that with my suggestions should help alot.  Actually a day or two off might help.  Don't hurt yourself too much;  a lot of folks haved quit because they gave up.  You may be born to play, if you don't quit.
