Where to plant bush honeysuckle

I recently got 3 small branches of bush honeysuckle (yellow flowers) from a friend, put the tips in hormone powder and put them in a good potting soil.  They seem to be thriving.  I thought I would wait about a month before putting in the ground.  Where is the best spot, shade or sun?  Are they evasive? I love the sweet smell.  Am I making a mistake and will it overtake a spot?

3 thumbs up

I also loved the sweet smell of honeysuckle and planted one near the house in a sunny location.  I let it grow up a trellis and by the third year it was taking over my house.  I decided it was too invasive for my taste, and took it out.  I cut it back and began to dig, and the roots went on forever.  A friend had a similiar experience with one on her chain link fence and it took two years to finally remove.  In the mean time it had choked out several lovely poppies she had nearby.  I suppose you have to weigh the good against the bad, be very careful with your placement, and be prepared to work hard at removal if you change your mind.

I have a honeysuckle vine that I've had for about 3 years now.  I have it growing up an arch trellis and I have 2 hummingbird feeders near it.  It is doing well and the hummingbirds love it.  Maybe I haven't had it long enough to take over but I trim it back in the fall some also.  That may have something to do with it not going too crazy.  What the heck plant it and enjoy it.  Mine is in full sun.Cool
