A friend and I disagree, will a five gallon bucket of water stay cooler if it has a fountain in it.

I say it will reach room temperature faster. He says it will cool the water.

His example is that a pot of boiling water cools down when you stir it.

29 thumbs up

I asked my husband who is an engineer, he says that even if the water is at room temperature, becasue of the fountain some of the water in the bucket will evaporate and the very act of evaporating causes the water's temperature to cool... so i guess your friend was right

Your water in the 5-gallon bucket will cool through evaporation.  It will also lose water.  In time, it will dry out completely.
