Cant be solved without either the diagram or an explanation of the circuit. Is it parralel or series?

Basically, you're talking about voltage dividers.  Resistance in series adds one way, in parralel, it adds much differently.  Capacitors in parallel add as resistors in series, and in series, capacitors add as would resistors in parallel.
