Hi

Verrucaes are a common complaint amongst children and adults. A verruca is a small skin lesion which is commonly found on the bottom surface of the foot. The lesion is usually approximately 1cm in diameter but can be larger. Sometimes a single wart may have many small satellite warts surrounding it, this is called a Mosaic Wart. Demand a Quality Physical Education Program...

Demand a Quality Physical Education Program In Your School Video. Public Service Announcement in the public domain. Physical activity is critical to the development and maintenance of good health. The goal of physical education is to develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. What is worth teaching and learning in physical education? The national content standards define what a student should know and be able to do as result of a quality physical education program. They provide a framework for developing realistic and achievable expectations for student performance at every grade level. These expectations are the first step in designing an instructionally aligned program. States and local school districts across the country have used the national standards to develop standards, frameworks, and curricula. Others have revised their existing standards and curricula to align with the national standards. The national standards demonstrate that physical education has academic standing equal to other subject areas. They describe achievement, show that knowledge and skills matter, and confirm that mere willing participation is not the same as education. In short, national physical education standards bring accountability and rigor to the profession. Parents are busy with a full workday, helping their children with homework, engaging their children in after school activities, and so on. This doesn't leave a whole lot of time for physical activity in your own lives. Do you realize that schools have devalued and cut physical education to the point that the majority of children get one day of PE per week? Children today have a shorter life expectancy than their parents for the first time in one hundred years because of the epidemic of obesity, according to Dr. William Klish, Professor of Pediatrics and Head of Pediatric Gastroenterology at Baylor College of Medicine. Lack of PE at school is a disservice to your child's health. Speak up. Demand that your school offers daily quality physical education. A recent study revealed that 81% of teachers and 85% of parents favor requiring students to take physical education every day at every grade level. As parents, you can rally people in your community to get involved. Physical education is at the core of a comprehensive approach to promoting physical activity through schools. All children, from prekindergarten through grade 12, should participate in quality physical education classes every school day. Physical education helps students develop the knowledge, attitudes, skills, behaviors, and confidence needed to be physically active for life, while providing an opportunity for students to be active during the school day. Leading professionals in the field of physical education have developed a new kind of physical education that is fundamentally different from the stereotypical "roll out the balls and play" classes of decades past that featured little meaningful instruction and lots of humiliation for students who were not athletically coordinated. Professional associations, academic experts, and many teachers across the country are promoting and implementing quality physical education programs that emphasize participation in lifelong physical activity among all students.

LTHS Gym Class

Lockport Township High School Physical Education Class Provides Dual Lesson for Students Lockport Township High School District 205 physical education teacher Don McKillip not only is helping his students to stay physically fit this school year; he is also teaching them a lesson in life. Mr. McKillip and Stacy Sparlin, another physical education teacher at LTHS, share three students with disabilities who are confined to wheelchairs. Because these students had some difficulty competing in some of the physical education activities, Mr. McKillip decided to expand his curriculum to incorporate wheelchairs in some of them. Mr. McKillip asked the faculty and staff at LTHS to donate wheelchairs to the Physical Education Department and was contacted by LTHS mathematics teacher Robert Hughes, whose father, Roger T. Hughes, is the chairman of the Operations Committee at the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Greater Chicago. Roger Hughes, in cooperation with the United Cerebral Palsy Association, was able to donate ten wheelchairs to Mr. McKillip and his students. As a result, LTHS students have the opportunity to compete in physical education programs while maneuvering in wheelchairs. Mr. McKillip has begun with a basketball program, but expects to expand the wheelchair use to other activities as well, such as volleyball and others. "The benefits of this program are that students who may never have sat in a wheelchair can now empathize with those who have only known life in a wheelchair," said Don McKillip. "The students who do use wheelchairs and have often felt excluded and isolated in these activities can now feel like they are one of the team. This has been an exceptionally rewarding experience for me." Stacy Sparlin has also enjoyed the new program. "To see the students' faces light up—that's what is really exciting about this program. These students now are getting a new perspective on life, and I find that to be the neatest part of it." The students enjoy the games and are more than happy to do something that is cutting-edge in physical education. "I find it difficult to maneuver the (wheel) chair," said Paige Ditchman, a student in Ms. Sparlin's class. "But I am so happy to have experienced something new and to be able to see the challenges of the disabled."

Socially Anxious Kid Freaking Out in Gym...

This 1950's film, sponsored by the American Association of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, uses the individual story of a worried mother and her son Paul to advocate schools hiring certified gym teachers. Paul has social anxiety and is picked on in his high school gym class, which is taught by his regular classroom teacher. There are scenes of kids playing poorly supervised games or playing randomly on the playground. Paul’s mother, who also narrates the film, worries that Paul is going to be scarred by this experience and lobbies the school board to hire a real gym teacher, against some opposition from other parents, “Just leave them on the playground and let them be!” She argues for the importance of gym class, properly taught. Accreditation for physical education teachers is crucial! Eventually, the school board gives in and the school gym class becomes a model of regularity, discipline, and structure. There are some great playground scenes in this film that exude 1950's culture, including shots of 1950’s style uniforms and long forgotten phsyical education activities. A gem in the history of physical education.

The Rhinestone Roper Show-School Assemblies

"The BEST assembly we have ever had! Rang through the school for many days after your show. Indeed, the mixture of entertainment and important messages, song, story, skill and teaching thereof, all made for the best assembly we have ever had in the seventeen years that I've been at this school...and certainly the best money that we have ever spent!" Pam Morris-Teacher Burney Elementary Burney, California The Rhinestone Ropers have performed over 1000 school assemblies in 44 states across the U.S. The Mink Family aim to accomplish three things with their 50 minute school show: Inspire with character education, a drug free message, original special purpose message and World Champion Skills. Educate by teaching about the life of a cowboy on a traditional cattle drive, how to read a cattle brand, create a brand for your school, musica and instruments on the cattle drive (including guitar, harmonica, jaw harp and concertina), the cowboy and his rope, sonic boom and the bullwhip and good citizenship education. Entertain with fancy trick roping, traditional rope games, cowboy songs and instruments and a spectacular black light finale. The Minks hold 19 World Championship titles, a Guinness World Record and were inducted into the IKT Hall Of Fame as the 2006 Western Performing Family of the Year. History: The Rhinestone Roper Show creates historical empathy for the daily life of the cowboy on the cattle drive. By learning details of different aspects of the cattle drive, students are able to share a common memory of their roots, of where they have been and of what their core values are. With this greater sense of self and shared community, the show demonstrates that good citizens act in certain ways and with respect for the rights of others. Art: By experiencing the arts of the old west (song, story, the lariat, bullwhip and musical instruments of the cattle drive) the student are taught a process that helps them develop the skills necessary to lead productive and fulfilling lives; such as self motivation, self discipline, perseverance, willingness to take risks, and craftsmanship. Students are also taught audience skills and proper etiquette in a variety of performance circumstances. Physical Education: The Mink Family executes physical skills with rope and bullwhip from novice level to competition level and from anaerobic to aerobic activity. They demonstrate, by example, the benefit of a physically active lifestyle that is free of drugs, alcohol and tobacco. Please contact Kimberly Mink to book an assembly for your school.
