I have a blue tongue skink. I am not sure of his age, but he is about 10 inches long. I noticed about a month ago that he had a lump under his skin on his side. This lump is getting quite large, sticking out a good half inch. He doesn't seem to be in pain, but I do notice him curling around with it on the inside when he is resting. He doesn't seem to eat much, but my first skink didn't either. Any ideas what it might be? Finding a vet that knows anything about lizards is about impossible around here. Thanks!

I'm all jacked up on Mountain Dew!

I've never kept a skink, and do not know if they shed, because an infected molt would be my first guess.  How sure are you it is a male?  I know that in female reptiles, sometimes eggs can be produced and not laid, causing serious problems.  It may also be a tumor or an abcess.  If the lump is hard to the touch it is more likely a tumor, if it feels soft or squishy it is likely an abcess or cyst.  I can imagine it will be difficult to find a vet for reptiles but keep looking.  Without being able to put hands on the animal, it's hard to be of any real help!

Good luck!
