Dogs In Danger

It's possible he feels more secure when he has a toy in his mouth, as if having something in his mouth means he "owns" something, that it belongs to him. I wouldn't be too worried about this kind of behavior. I think as soon as feels more comfortable with you in his new surroundings, this behavior will pass.

It acts as a security blanket in a way. He may or may not get board doing it. I wouldn't worry unless he gets angry or vicious if you put your hand near the item in his mouth.

37 thumbs up

I think its a security thing. Or possibly even a control thing. As long as it does not cause behavioral problems, I don't think its a really big issue...

I agree with Sasha. It's probably a security thing like a little kid with his blanket, or maybe he just wants to play.

SmileI totally agree with all of these people they r so rite cause my dog is a siberian husky and he always lays with this one comforter and if he dont kno where its at he wont sleep or eat or anythin so maybe he knows that, that toy isnt gonna leave him and possibly since you just got it it fears you too getting rid of it so he knows that toy is gonna be there for it so give it lots of love and hopefully it will start to attach to you more and let its toy go.
