I dropped my female off at the breeders on the 19th of October and picked her up on November 2nd, I know that she is pregnant because she is huge and I took her to the vet for x-rays. She does have pups but I am not sure of the date that she bred for sure. So I don't know when to expect the puppies

the gestation period for a dog is nine weeks.  it doesnt matter what breed, all dogs are pregnant for nine weeks.  So she could not have gotten pregnant on the first day or the pups would have arrived last week!  I say that you should start preparing, because those puppies are going to arrive any day now!  Make sure you get a whelping box so that the momma does not accidentally sleep on one of the pups and suffocate them.  Good luck and congrats!

12 thumbs up

Chihuahuas are little dogs, with great big hearts and a Macho streak!

The gestation period is 58 -63 days, from the first tie. When you took her to the vet for xrays, they should have been able to give you, an approximate due date according to what they saw on the x-rays! I would give the vets office a call. They can check her records and give you an appoximate due date. Good Luck! I hope everything goes smoothly and safely!

sorry, chihuahualover, but if you notice, the question was posted 2 months ago, which means that the pups were born quite a while ago!  Hopefully they are doing fine, and Im sure that they still appreciate your answer. :)

10 thumbs up

The Females temperature will usually drop from a normal 101.5 degrees to 99 degrees within 48 hours of the time she begins whelping. Usually you will notice restlessness, shivering and panting. There will also be a clear mucus discharge. Females will also scratch around the whelping box, preparing her nest. Sometimes they will vomit as well. These sign usually occur for up to 24 hours before her contractions start. Good luck and enjoy the miracle of birth. Also know ahead of time where there is an emergency vet clinic to take her if trouble should arise.
