my 2 dogs are scratching all the time. small short haired dogs. no fleas on them. vet remedies do not work and cost a fortune. what do you suggest. thank you. kathleen.

Many dogs have allergies, mine is one, and the medication, usually steroids is expensive.

Another thought occurred to me.  It could be food allergies.  Try your dog on different kinds of foods and see if it makes any difference.  Buy the ones at the vet though because the store brands pretty much have all the same ingredients.  Or you could have your dog allergy tested.  I am thinking about having that done to mine.

I've never had such skin issues with my dogs. One has a big bald spot on the top of her back treated for fleas and use an anti-itch spray, but I am wondering if they pick something up and pour out half the powder and reclose it. My dog is also itching up a storm. He's on Comfortis

My dog is itching himself hairless

That pretty much sums it up. He is itching and licking like fvcking mad. Making sore patches all been bathing him once a week with an all natural oats and honey dog shampoo. I don't use a lot because because you cant ask the dog what makes the itching feel better. SO if you go the antihistamine route
