I presume that you're referring to Barbarasong (Barbara Song) from Die Dreigroschenoper (The Threepenny Opera).  It appear that the song was first performed in 1928 by Roma Bahn (in the role of Polly), but first recorded by Lotte Lenya in 1930.  (The Threepenny Opera in Europe) (Threepenny Opera: The Music: Song List)

Lotte Lenya wasn't French -- but she could sing well in multiple languages including French.
