Why do people give up stuff on Ash Wednesday? I know it's supposed to mark the beginning of Lent, but why do people feel they have to give things up?

People give things up starting on Ash Wednesday in observance of the season of Lent. Lent lasts for 40 days and ends on Easter Sunday. This 40 days is in remembrance of the 40 days Jesus spent alone in the wilderness fasting before embarking on His ministry that is described in the first four books of the New Testament. His ministry culminated in His ultimate sacrifice, His own life, given to save humanity and unite us with God.

Christians are called to become more like Jesus each day. And sacrifice (giving something up) is a way to do this. We all have selfish tendencies. And in the Christian worldview these tendencies are the root of sin and divisiveness. So sacrifice counters those natural tendencies, roots out sin, and leads us on the path to spiritual growth.

Im so cult

Another "I'M SO" music video by Onision, this one is about cults & religions that take themselves too seriously. Original song & music video created by Onision regarding religion and the underlying politics of it. Join the insanity now, worship our frogs and kitties! It's the way of the future! Let Izukia lead the way to your soft sweet kool-aide flavored death. Download the song at http://www.onision.com Lyrics --------------- I'm so cult. I'm so brainwashed. I'm so religion. I'm so holy... Hello, I'm Izukia. Hee hee hee... Will you join my cult? Come on, it's free. We will dance naked together. We'll watch the rising sun. It's ok if I have sex with you. Because I'm so holy, I'm so fun. I think it's time we burn the nonbelievers... They threaten us with "Logic" and "Sense" I'm sure the divine will appreciate use killing their children. It's their will to murder and destroy. What if a baby dies? Where does it go? To the above of course... I know... Lets kill all our babies so they all go to the above! In the name of religion. Lets rape and kill. It's fun to make this world ugly. It's the divine will. Welcome to bizzarro world. Land of religion! We'll commit atrocities in the name of our imagination! Wait! Where did the cow bell go!? Ah that's better. You know the cowbell is holy right? It has special powers. No I'm not just making this all up! You should follow me blindly. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not real. Our cult is full of broken people. They'll believe anything when they've given up on themselves. Forgive me because I had cheated on my wife today. Ok? Forgive me because I use "being human" as an excuse to do horrible things. I know you'll forgive me just by me asking... Now I'm going to go do the same thing again, in the name of RELIGION! Our religion could have been beautiful... But selfish people screwed it all up. Manipulating the text of our books to justify personal desires. We're all so holy, aren't we? I'm going to the clouds above. Will you join me? When I die I look down on the world. I've always been above society. Together we'll drink kool-aide. You go first. Come on, sip faster. The police will be here soon. The police will be here soon... What have I done? I hope it kills me quickly... Uuuuugggghhhhh! Tags: im so cult original song music video parody comedy funny download mp3 religion worship mock sketch humor fun spoof tube

Exclusive Interview: Bill Maher on RELIGULOUS

Bill Maher, from HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher, opens his new film Religulous this week. Bill sat down for an exclusive 1 on 1 with National Lampoon's Matt Zaller for the Zaz Report to discuss God, Politics, Religion, and the American election. Bill dishes on the almighty, organized religion, Sarah Palin and John McCain, and most importantly, how to correctly pronounce his name. Religulous is as funny as Bill Maher is, so the funny meter is quite high. Christianity, Islam, Judaism, the after life? It's all fair game!
