Do lots of people use this site? Someone recently mentioned that there are more users here than Yahoo! Answers & Wiki Answers, but it doesn't seem like it.

Yes, lots of people use this site.  You have lots of unanswered questions because you have asked difficult questions that only very few people would be interested in answering.  In your case, you would have to be patient and wait for those special people to notice and answer.  You might try reposting your questions after rewriting them, making them simpler and shorter.
