I think you're right about people acting nuts in chatrooms.  Here's my take on why ...

Have you seen the cartoon, "On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog"?

Well, I think that's true for people in chatrooms.  You can be different than you are in real life.  For many people, that means more curt, juvenile, crude, snarky, annoying, etc.

I think the net is a place were people express themselves  more freely since our non virtual world doesn't allow it.It is a place where freedom of speech is at its pick. The net is an area were people can release tensions and aggression which in our real world will not be accepted. In the net you can be whoever you want to be , or who ever you always wanted to be. You can check out the "Second Life " site which really answers these needs.
