Hi Holden,
It's really very difficult to have an elderly parent who needs help at home. I don't know if you live in the U.S. If you do, I recommend for your mom to be placed in an Adult Family Home in your area. These homes are licensed by the DSHS or Department of Social and Health Services , they should meet the requirements for being licensed to care for the elderly and are run by lay people who had some certifications required by the State or are run by Registered Nurses or other health professionals.
They help the resident in the activities of daily living like dressing, bathing, preparing meals, provide them with daily activities like daily walks, bingo, etc.
The monthly fee depends on the amount of care that she gets. It ranges from $2500.00 to $4000.00 per month. If your mom can't afford the private pay rate, then you need to go to the DSHS for a Social worker to assess her needs and to see if she qualifies for the State to pay for her stay in an Adult Family Home.
Patients usually get better care in Adult Family Homes than in Nursing Homes because the maximum number of residents they can take is 6. There is one caregiver to 6 residents. The caregiver gets 10-12 patients in a Nursing Home so the care is not as great as the Family Homes.
You'll have peace of mind because this is a 24 hour care.
