Since you are not getting cooperation from the German embassy, I would contact your US Senators and/or your congressman, and ask them for help. This is a unique situation and you need to go through diplomatic channels as fast as possible. If it was me, I would also contact local media stations and ask them for help. Usually they are more then willing to try and help out in finding ways to cut through bureaucratic red tape.
