Figure out when you are ovulating. If you have an average 28 day cycle you will probably ovulate on the 14th day of your cycle. You will see a change in your cervical mucous when you do ovulate. It will become clear, slippery, and stretchy, just like raw egg whites. If you are unsure about when you ovulate, you can purchase an over the counter ovulation predictor test to help you identify when you are ovulating and therefore most fertile. If you have an abnormal cycle, you should rely on the changes in your cervical mucous to indicate when you are getting close to ovulating. Some women may spot when they are ovulating and others may get cramping. All these signs should help you to know when the best time is for intercourse.

  • Step 2
2 to 3 days before you are scheduled to ovulate, start having intercourse. Missionary style is best for conception. You should have intercourse every other day until 24 hours following ovulation. Male sperm can stay alive in your uterous for 2 or 3 days (some even say up to 5 days).

  • Step 3
Following intercourse, stay in bed. Do not get up to go to the bathroom. Stay in bed. There are millions of sperm released when having intercourse but if you are on a mission, you want every possible chance to complete it. I would suggest staying in bed 10 to 15 minutes.

  • Step 4
Studies is England have shown that if women wait to climax until after the male does, it increases their chances of conception.

  • Step 5
Take a home pregnancy test approximately 11 to 14 days following ovulation. I recommend First Response because you can test early.

  • Step 6
If you get a positive test, even if it's a very faint line, call your doctor and request blood work to check your HCG levels and Progesterone. Low progesterone is a leading cause of miscarriage so ensuring that level is where it needs to be is crucial to a healthy pregnancy.
    Tips & Warnings

    • Do not have too much intercourse as that will lower the males sperm count. Also, you do not want old sperm as they won't be effective. Make this a time to spice up your love life and have intercourse 2 to 3 times per week.

The earliest you can get a positive result on the most sensitive pregnancy tests is seven days after ovulation. Implantation needs to occur before hCG is produced, and that generally happens between 6-12 days post ovulation, usually by 10 days after. For this reason, it makes economical sense to wait until 10-12 days after ovulation, but even then a significant percentage of women who are pregnant will still show a negative result.

How Can I Get Rid of This Yeast Infection?

QUESTION Dear Midwife, I have had a yeast infection throughout my entire pregnancy. My doctor has tested me for STD's and all are negative. He has prescribed metro gel to me. I have used this every few months. I am now on my 32 week and am using this prescription every other week. Is there something stronger I can use or something I can change or do different to help? ANSWER Metrogel will not cure a yeast infection, it's for a bacterial infection and can actually cause a yeast infection. Have you tried Diflucan (the yeast pill)? There are also over the counter yeast preparations and a heavy duty vaginal cream (Terazol) that might be appropriate. If all these fail, borax washes help some women and the yeast can be cultured to see what will kill it. Other things you can do for yourself include eliminating sugars as much as possible (no soda or juices for sure, only two fruits and two dairies per day) and eating more vegetables and proteins.
