i have just bought a second hand boat and was thinking of painting the hull as there were barnicals which i have tried scrapping of question is do i paint the hull or just use rubbing compound

Check with your local boat sales and repair shop. I have found that by cleaning your aluminum boat, it will hold it's clean new look better that painting it. Paint scratches too easy and gives the appearance of being handeled roughly running it up on rocks and making it look like it wasn't kept up with proper care. I don't know of anyone that was happy with painting their boat for very long. I just think that you like I said earlier, check with your local boat repair and sales. Keep in mind that when you are looking to buy a used boat that paint is a great way to cover up a small crack in the craft and they may be trying to hide any damage from the buyer.
Thanks i just cleaned the hull with soap and put reflective sticker on the water line removed the double hull covers and cleaned the inside and got ride of the salt and replaced some of the foam and redid the wiring she as good as new but there is no water in lake naivasha so hopefull get to test her if the lake levels come up again
