Are the European peoples descendant of Indo-Arean tribes that migrated from Asia about 3000-4000 years ago, ore are a "mixture" of these tribes and the population that lived there before?

Research into the origin of Europeans is based on genetic information and similarities between the different languages. According to the theory, Europe was colonized by tribes known as Indo-Europeans who came from the area of Asia minor. The main problem with this theory is that is cannot explain the presence of races such as the Magyars from Hungary, or the Basque from northern Spain.
You can find plenty of information about this on the web. For current research in this field I suggest that you do a search on PubMed (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez)
