The word "

brutal" is an adjective, relating to the noun "brute". Both words derived from the Middle English and Middle French word "brutus", wgich means "heavy, devoid of feeling, irrational" (see the link to the definition of "brute").

Brute:

c.1460, "of or belonging to animals," from M.Fr. brut "coarse, brutal," from L. brutus "heavy, dull, stupid," an Oscan word, from PIE base *gwer- "heavy." Before reaching Eng. meaning expanded to "of the lower animals." Used of human beings from 1535. The noun is from 1611. Brutal in the sense of "cruel" is from 1641; earlier "rude, stupid" (1510); in the original animal sense it is from c.1450.

Peace does not come to us until we induce it.

As far as I know, the word "Brutal" means intolerant, mean, and heavy handed.  But more, it implied treachery.

"Et tu Brute'?" were Julius Caesar's final words as he saw his old friend murder him for political gain.  What good did it do them, as they knifed their former friend and then spread his blood all over themselves?  Rome was a savage place, where crucifixion was the worst way to die but they also put Jesus to death on that hellish thing -- at the demand of His countrymen!

When you think of all the rottenness that humans do, remember that "brutal" also means "treacherous."
