Many people believe they are.

Certainly, it is best to eat foods which have been minimally processed as well as foods which have as few additives as possible.

The key factor in organic foods is that they are generally raised using non-toxic methods of pest control and without chemical additives or hormones - so organic vegetables are less likely to contain pesticide residue and organic meat will have been fed on grains not enhanced with growth hormone, etcetera.

In the long run, your overall health may depend less on whether you ate organic than whether you ate sensibly, maintained a healthy weight and followed general habits for good health (limit drinking, stop smoking, and so on).

I agree with "jkgrandma" in that the less the food has been touched w/processed or foreign substances, the better it will be. You'll be paying a premium for this, too.

We live in SW Michigan in the Greenbelt of the Midwest, and we are now in the Farmer's Market Season. We tend to buy just about all our fruits and vegetables at the markets. While everything may not be organic, our produce is much fresher that we'd get at the grocery store.

Your direction, not your intention, determines your destination

I've read conflicting opinions on this ..Some say if it has no sprays and other things that big farmers have to use to get it to the markets faster and bigger then just about anything goes. Others say that washing and cooking of our fruits and vegetables does not justify the cost.I think it a matter of the individual choice.
