It doesn't have to be, but I think that it's easier to grow organic food in small farms (e.g. in the city) than in larger farms because they are more diversified. When you have a large area with the same plant, you have to make sure it doesn't get any pests, because if it does your whole field is ruined. When you grow small amounts of different things in the city, you can take these chances.
