Thank you, Rumple.
Though haven't been able to access the article in question, I understand your frustration. When I see amateur writing that disturbs me, grammar wise, I assume it is from someone for whom English is not the first language, or perhaps the person was not able to receive a decent education. When it comes from someone professing to be a "writer" or, worse yet, a professional "journalist" influencing so many from his position on TV, I get crazy! Maybe the teaching of English has been replaced with "How to Make $$ Getting the Hottest Gossip or Sexiest Photos".
I know I make mistakes, but I majored in neither journalism nor English - and neither do I get the "big bucks". Also, I'm wondering whether the rules of grammar have changed in the last 60 years. Things that were taboo when I was in school seem to be common usage today. If that is so, I will accept it, but I have not yet found authoritative information on the subject.
I commend you for caring enough about our language to express your outrage at its decline.
P.S. Do you remember diagraming sentences? It was such fun in junior high, I wish I could remember how to do it.
