How can one become knowledgeable about fashion??

I am a guy who formerly had no sense of fashion or style. However, with some coaxing from my friends, I started buying some "brand name" clothes and started really enjoying the way I was looking. Since then, I've gotten an interest in fashion and looking good, but I don't have a clue where to start. How do you go about figuring out what suits you and what's in fashion? I want to learn to develop my own style eventually, but I also wanna learn to understand fashions and trends. Any suggestions?

You can look on-line at some mens clothing web-sites, like, J Crew, Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic. To me, these are the most , simple but classic/ classy clothing for men. I don't know what your style is, but I think these are places to start, it also depends on your budget. Ralph Lauren can be very expensive, but when there are sales, you can get very good deals. Don't go to the macy's dept. @ Ralph Lauren, either look on-line, or @ the Real, RL clothing store if there is 1 close to where you live, these always have the best and greatest looks for men.The same with the others, going to the stores will give you an idea, on what you like, or are looking for. Best of luck.

If I were you I would start with picking a store, say American Eagle and looking around and just pick up the items thay seem "cool" to you. Before you decide that you like that item you should check for quality, like how thick the material is and how well it is put together. You can check that by looking at the seams and seeing how they were sewn. If they are thin and strands of string hang out then the item will not last long. When you have several items and are trying them on you should try using the items in outfits. Like instead of tring a t-shirt on and then trying on jeans try them on together to see how they each would work  in an outfit. I would also start with basics like t-shirts with simple designs with kahki shorts or jeans and sneakers or flip-flops. That style shows a care-free, easygoing attitude, if that's what you're going for. Also I am a girl so you might want to ask another dude about my advice before using it just to stay on the safe side.
