Is it okay to have a fire in a Wood Burning Fireplace without a liner?

If I have a wood burning fireplace without a clay liner but mason /brick in the chimney - is it okay to burn wood. The fireplace was originally a wood burning- than converted to gas - but is now wood burning again - without a liner! Another way to ask the question is - what are the disadvantages to a wood burning fireplace that doesn't have a liner?

"Ventless Gas Fireplace"

Does anyone have any experience with a ventless gas fireplace? We have a fireplace which hasn't to use our fire place as it is now (wood burning)we would most likely have to spend some money putting ? RobI found this is a Google search: {B}A ventless gas fireplace works on a fairly simple principle

True or false: burning wood in a fireplace will make your home energy costs...

Not always, but usually true. Burning wood needs air so it will draw the heated air out window to the fireplace slightly. Some top-end fire place inserts will have an air feed Look into purchasing a blower for your fireplace. They are readily available for gas and wood
