Do we have enough oil?

Approximately 20 years ago scientists said that in the year 2020 the world oil reserves will probably run out. What is the situation today? Are we going to run out of oil in the near future or do we have enough for a couple more hundred years?

There are alternative means for natural oil mining (e.g. Sand Oil)- as long as prices where below $50 a barrel, the production costs of alternative methods were not economical.

As prices of oil sky high, you can see the Oil Sand industry booming. The Alberta province of Canada has the worlds largest Sand-Oil reserves - they say Canada can produce enough oil for the world-wide consumtion for the next 50 years (at least)

Apart from the production of energy and vehicle fuels, oil is also necessary for the production of plastics. Nuclear energy cannot replace it in that.
