The best office suite

Which one would you recommend as the best office suite - OpenOffice, MS Office 2007 or some other? Please share your comments. Do not worry if you will be comparing only a single product from the whole package (e.g. the spreadsheet program from each wuite only).

The answer to your question depends on your intended use. We are talking about quality products in all the possibilities. Unless you require a spreadsheet with some on the unique capabilities of Excel in some of the most sophisticated (and seldom, if ever, used by the vast majority of users), I see no reason not to use OpenOffice 2. In my opinion, the combination of cost (zero), quality, ease of use and community support is hard to beat. And it also has some unique capabilities, like direct export to PDF and Flash, not available in MS Office.

I would recommend OpenOffice. I use it home and work with different versions of MSOffice. Price is the number one reason for me, you can download OO for free (www.openoffice.org). Program updates are also free. MSOffice is updated frequently so that user must update it to be able to open files saved with the latest version. OO can open MSOffice files and save in MSOffice file types. Saving to PDF is also included in OO.

I use both OpenOffice and Microsoft office, OO home and MS Office 2003 at work. MS Office is much better IMO: less buggy, has more features and more user friendly. It only loses out in terms of value for money. If you can afford it, buy it.

I heard that MSO 2007 will take some getting used to, but it will be much better than 2003.

I would recommend you to check some 'office 2.0' options like Zoho and Zimbra.

Some checked alternatives are described here.

Thank you all for your help! I compared OpenOffice against MS Office 2007 and my choice is MS Office 2007. I liked the new interface and the "quick access" toolbar.

It depends on your requirements and your resources and your grasp of the program. OpenOffice is easy to use and will be handled easily even by those who are still new to the program. OpenOffice also feature other capabilities which are not avaialble in MSOffice, thus it is preferred by a lot of computer users.

Choosing an office suite is almost the same as when choosing a search engine marketing strategy. Some strategies may work perfectly for select businesses but not for practically every business.
