I'm beginning to hear a loud muffler-like noise coming from

under the hood area of my car; can anyone explain what this might be?

There might be a hole in the muffler pipe that attaches to the engine manifold.

There might be the manifold coonnected to the engine is cracked or the joint washer burnt out
