Got a question about news? Type your question here...As a healthcare professional who has worked in this industry for 18 years, what gets me about the abortion debate and the stem cell debate are facts and money. FACT: in the stem cell debate, the issue is over this being a living organism. However, stem cells do not last forever. The samples that are given from whence the tests are conducted have an "expiration" date. Do you know what they do with expired samples? They dispose of them. If the issue is killing a would-be living organism, then you could also debate that when a man ejaculates he is killing a living or what would have been a living being if it had been joined with a woman's fertile eggs. Regarding abortion, let's talk facts and money. Most women who abort do so because erither (A) they don't want the baby because they failed to use protection (b) they were raped or forced to take a man's sperm and again do not want the baby or (c) they are like most who have an abortion and they are from either the lower middle class or low income to no income sector of the economic spectrum and cannot afford a baby. My question is to pro-lifers...IF all these women have these babies, who does the burden of taking care of them fall upon? The most common answer is Joe and Jane Q. Taxpayer. We the people take on the burden of raising unwanted children. Right now, you can go to any state's website for adoption. Most all of them are littered with unwanted children who have mental and physicial issues. They are thrown from foster home to foster home, but ultimately they are the state's burden. They are being taken care of by state funded Medicaid and/or federally funded Medicare, depending on the severity of their illness. So if all these women are allowed to have their babies, the taxpayer will ultimately have to take on responsibility of raising this child. In addition, many of these children grow up with emotional scars and could pose a risk to society as a juvenile delinquent or possibly something far worse. In one of many ways, these children will become society's burden. You always hear that argument of "there are many loving, caring homes that could take these children in and give them a proper life." Oh really? Then why are the hundreds of thousands of children who are up for adoption still sitting in state registers unclaimed by parents? In summation, stem cells are disposed of anyway at some point and speaking on behalf of all taxpayers we do NOT want any more people sucking up our hard earned money by abusing governmental assistance just because some PC group thinks we should "make love and not war" and let all these children run wild in the streets. Get the facts before you try to tell me your side is the RIGHT side.

Time flies like an arrow.

Fruit flies like a banana.

I agree with you.  It is immoral to insist that children be brought into the world and then not make an honest attempt to make sure they are wanted and needed by someone.  In most states and localities, we do not make sure we do this, and frequently we do not.  Those who wanted them brought into the world frequently stigmatized them after they were born, and in some places still do, and thought this was just and proper, although it is obviously utterly unfair.  So much for their understanding of morality.

Once the children are born, we do have to make sure they are wanted, which includes not cheaping out on their care or making them feel like we wish they would vanish because they cost us money.  We owe this both to them and to ourselves as decent, loving people.

May you have a long trail with a light load.

Starting with the stem cell issue. The good doctor proclaims “in the stem cell debate, the issue is over this being a living organism.” Let me return the suggestion to get facts straight. The issue is opening up abortion clinics as stem cell factories to make money selling a product for profit.  A completely un-necessary move as research shows adult and ones own stem cells get the job done. However that would not make the millions of dollars they would receive creating baby killing factories in the name of a greater good.

Then the good doctor proclaimed “If the issue is killing a would-be living organism, then you could also debate that when a man ejaculates he is killing”  ….. What a nescience statement to make! Are you sure this is a doctor?  If so, this individual needs to go back to school. It is killing because from the moment of conception it has its own unique DNA.

Next, let’s take on the distorted statement “Right now, you can go to any state's website for adoption. Most all of them are littered with unwanted children”

Once again, let me return the statement back over the net to get your facts straight. Potential parents all over this country are on waiting list to adopt newborn babies. There is no place filled with newborns waiting to be adopted. I personally know a couple who adopted from China because of the lack of availability and stringent requirements here in the US.  Children that are so called litter in state adoption agency are older and have been take out of abusive situations. To infer that newborns are littered through out our country is simply a lie.

I think the good doctor revealed the real liberal concern with the statement “speaking on behalf of all taxpayers we do NOT want any more people sucking up our hard earned money” and “In addition, many of these children grow up with emotional scars and could pose a risk to society as a juvenile delinquent or possibly something far worse. In one of many ways, these children will become society's burden.

The next step along this same thought process will be euthanasia. Why should we waste good tax payer dollars on all the unwanted seniors in homes all across this country with a multitude ageing elements like dementia.  Why should tax paying citizens pay for a senior’s hip replacement with state funded Medicaid and/or federally funded Medicare when they will die within the next 10 years anyway. Why should they become society’s burden?  If they can’t take care of themselves, why should the taxpayer? Why should tax paying citizen pay to house seniors that litter state homes all over this country when they have no quality of life. No one comes to visit them anymore, why keep them alive at tax payers expense? I’ll tell you why. From the moment of conception it’s LIFE.

Let me sum up by saying we do live in a free country. Supposably. For Obama to force doctors and nurses to perform abortions against their personal conviction or lose federal funding is absurd. To turn abortion clinics into stem cell producing factories for money is absurd. To promote euthanasia for convenience is absurd. To teach abortion as the civil thing to do is absurd. If liberals spent as much time and money teaching safe sex with protection verses abortion rights, we would not even be having these debates.

Back to the good doctor. “Get the facts before you try to tell me your side is the RIGHT side.”

Finally, as HarrisF asked, what is the question of this thread?
