Who needs to be in this scope of work: general contractor, project manager, or both?

I feel comfortable designing the changes that should take place in remodeling our bathrooms, two of which are small and standard, with the final one being our master bathroom. There is a favorite electrician, a carpenter and a plumber eager to do the work, but my questions is this: Should I hire a general contractor for liability purposes? You see, I am budget conscious as well. I just don't know if I should take on these three rooms as the project manager minus a general contractor. Please advise!!

If you are comfortable with design and your contractors-- there is no reason to hire a GC.  If there is a problem with the job, your GC will just go back to the individual contractors.  Same with insurance, he'll rely on the subs to carry their own.  You sound like a sophisticaed byer-- I don't see a reason to add this layer of cost.
