When do I need a license plumber in NYC?

do I need a license plumber to replace a tolet in NYC?  I'm  general contractor with what is possible oine of the most efficient and capable crew of workers.  1 of the guys worked 3 years for a plumber and 2 of them worker with an elctrical contractor.  We even do work for a semy retired electrical contractor that subs all of his work to us.

I fint it incredible that a licensed plumber is required to to change a toilet and even a faucet - is that true?

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.

If it was me, I would have a friend of yours call this company (or a similar one) and ask him your question. I'm sure you will find the answer much quicker rather then having to call city hall.

I've been out of N.Y.C. for a long time but I think this remains true....Not all plumbers in N.Y.C. are "licensed".  The only one's carrying the license are the business owners...All plumbers that work for the contractor are covered by his license....As far as replacing a toilet, any homeowner worth his weight in salt is capable of replacing his or her toilet.

Plumber

In Ohio you do NOT need a permit to install/Replace a toilet or a faucet. You do need a permit to do anything that involves piping, and anything that may safty issues. Most plumbing falls into the permit required catagory. You must have a license to get a permit. Also note that a license shows that an individule has taken the time and effort to go through the required appreticeship time (5 years in the field) and pass the required testing. Not a lot to ask to show proof of professionalism. Not that all licensed plumbers are good or that all non licensed plumbers are bad.

call the local plumbing inspector, he/she will be able to answer that. in most model codes, you do not need a permit to lift and reset a toilet so long as the piping has not been altered. (MI- plumbing inspector)
