I need more laundry room space!

Hi Eric I have a front loading washer and front loading gas dryer. The dryer is hooked up to my large hot water heater. This leaves me with limited room to open up the door to the outside. Should I replace the hot water heater with a tankless heater or would it be better to have a licensed contractor convert the washer/dryer pair to a stackable? Also, there are no laundry hook-ups in my garage.

Thank you.

Brenda, not knowing your available space it's hard to answer the question.  I believe you have a small mistake in your question saying your dryer is connected to your water heater.  Unless you have a washer and dryer that were designed to be stacked I don't think you want to do that.  Can you relocate your dryer?  Since you only need a gas line or electric line and a vent you could move it easily.  You mentioned your garage, it could be inexpensive to put a water line out there, but the drain could be a problem with location and freezing.  I don't think the garage is a good place for a washer and dryer anyway.  Another idea is to have the door open the opposite side not very hard to do.
