How safe is Tykerb?
My 34 year old daughter had a dbl radical mastectomy in Dec 07. She was found to have Her2 pos. cancer that spread to the lymph glands, to the liver, lungs, & bone. After a Chemo Tx. of Herceptin, zometa, carboplaten, & taxotere, she has now had 2 PET/CT scans that show no active cancer in the body. However, a CT scan of the brain showed that she had mets to the brain. She just finished radiation to the brain & steroid therapy. It will be about another week before they can test to see if it was successful.
The Dr. intends to try Tykerb. In fact, my daughter(who finds it difficult at this time to always process things correctly) indicated that this may be a part of a clinical study. Does this mean that she could be one of a group to get either Tykerb or a placebo? At her young age, we don't want to waste precious time on a placebo if the Tykerb can help her. We also are very scared of all the possible serious side effects it can cause. Please advise!
Money is better than poverty, if only for financial reasons.
Since I am not in the medical field, the only thing I can do is provide you with links to recent articles about the safety of Tykerb. I wish you and your daughter all the best.
