Do I really need gutters?

I have had my old gutters removed and I really don't think I need to replace them. What are the main things to look for/consider to decide if I really need gutters on my home? Thanks!

All the would is a stage, and I'm running spot

I have never had gutters on my house of twenty five years.  My roof is such that most of the water is channeled and pours off by my small front door overhang.  I put a concrete sidewalk square where the water spills to slow erosion.  It is inconvenient to run through the small waterfall that pours from the roof when it rains.

I just went outside to check my mail, and no one on my block has gutters.

Check out HomeTips.com!

If water spilling off the roof isn't going to create any splash damage along the bottoms of the walls, cause ground-water drainage problems, or drool onto people coming and going from the house (etc.), you probably don't need gutters. Another option is to put gutters only on the portions of the roof where they're necessary.

10 thumbs up

First, gutters funnel water away from your house, cellar and foundation. If you should find that you're getting wet or moldy areas in your cellar, assuming that you have a cellar, then you need those gutters back.

Secondly, with gutters removed, you face the possibility of water curling back beneath your roofing material, even if you have drip edges, it can happen, so if you find rain leaking back into your house, around window casings or wet walls, you might want your gutters back. Problems will make themselves apparent soon enough.

(P.S. Don't put your phone number on the internet for all to see! There's a lot of freaks out there!)
