The Compact Disc reached the market in late 1982 in Asia and early the following year in other markets; for example, it was released in the United States in March, with the first CDs available being 16 Japanese-made titles from CBS/Sony.

Interesting question! I didn't find the answer, though, I only found this paragraph here:

"Among the individual titles were Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here, Billy Joel's The Stranger, Michael Jackson's Thriller, and Toto's Toto IV. Other titles were jazz and classical."

first album to be released in CD format was:

Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms

 atleast it was the first one in DDD format (fully digital) and NOT a remastering job for the original analog tapes.

 that is a different thing from the original post, but distinct enough for me to think you meant this, right?

I do not know if Brothers In Arms (Dire Starits) was the first music CD but one of it's tracks (Money for Nothing) was the first video clip to be broadcast in MTV USA.
