i heard the original title was supposed to be revenge of the jedi i.e. Luke Skywalker - but the movie gods decreed this would be to violent for kids so to get them in the cinemas it was re-titled return of the jedi

i don't believe it refers to anakin 'cause in my opinion lucas originally only wrote one star wars film, seen the potential and wrote another one splitting it in two ( the empire strikes back & return of the jedi ) and many many years later thought 'how can i make some more money' and copied the first three ( and yes, i do mean copied ) but called them episodes 1,2 &3........yeah right!
