What was the movie where the kid flies the plane (DC-3?) alone?

Looking for details about this movie (movie TITLE, year, director, actors... of course the title is the most important - I can probably find the rest on imdb). I only remember the basic plot which is something like that:

a pilot is grounded (wounded/sick?). His son (very young - maybe 7-10) is secretly working on the father airplane in their hangar (I believe the plane is a DC-3). then, the climax is that the son takes the plane and flies it over town! alone!

When he lands - safely -  parents are naturally mad.  But then, after a while the father asks him: "How'd she handle?".

OK - that's about all I can remember. Any clue you have will help. thanks!

Hi Kisha,

First - thanks. I went over the list, but unfortunately, it's not there. Maybe it wasn't a DC-3 after all, or maybe it was but it just doesn't appear there. Anyhow - I'll have to keep looking, as well as hoping someone might recall this movie Smile

Hey all -

I have just found the answer:

I kept googling, and, in a site reviewing the movie "Wild America" (here: http://www.screenit.com/movies/1997/wild_america.html), I found the following description:

"Without having ever flown before, Marshall takes his father's rebuilt plane by himself and successfully flies and lands it"

After checking in several more websites I'm now convinced that indeed - this is it.

BTW - interesting: this movie was also the answer to my previous question - looking for a movie about 3 brothers going on a wildlife adventure in the US. I was inclined to think that the plane adventure was a whole movie to itself, but turns out it was only a side episode in the movie. Funny how memory works.

Thanks everyone who tried to help!

Apprently the movie is "Wild America".

Also - apparently the story about the boy (named Marshall) who flies his dad's plane is just a side plot in this movie, rather than a whole movie to itself. Also - the plane wasn't a DC-3 (Dakota). It was an old 2-seater (not exactly sure about the model)

Some pics from the movie are available on youtube:
