Danielle,

It depends on which chapter you filed.  If you filed for a Chapter 7 BK, most lenders want you to wait 3 years from time the BK was discharged.  If you filed for Chapter 13, then yes, you can go to many places.  You could have even refinanced your home after 12 months of being in chapter 13 as long as your payment history was good and the courts approved it.

I have even done a loan for a customer who bought a house while in chapter 13 BK.

Try to see if you can find a local broker/lender who can do an FHA loan for you to get you your best rate.

Good luck

Anne

It was a chapter 7 Bankruptcy. It has been 14 months since the discharge. Our adjustable mortgage rate will go up in May 2009. The Bankruptcy was discharged in July 2007. What can we do? Thank You for your help.

You can refinance mortgage after a bankruptcy. Some disadvantages may be there as a bankruptcy damages your score severely.

But, you shouldn't have a big problem if you have already maintained a good payment history and established a good credit history.

You may shop around for the rates with different lenders and also the fees charged by them. If you wish we may do necessary search for you and help you to get the most appropriate lender.

That requires some more financial details of yours to proceed further like the score that you have, the debts and your income.
