I am in the process of purchasing a home in East Orange, NJ. I received my good faith estimate; and it shows a title insurance binder fee of $1,124.50. Is that excessive? What is the average rate?

That does seem high but can't be sure as Title insurance is based on the value of the property it is insuring so it may be OK. Call an attorney's office that handles a lot of real estate closings and get an estimate based on the value of the property you are buying. Good luck.
