What monitor should i get for an hd 4850 gfx card

recently built a new pc (first time ever) with quad core, 4gigs ram, etc etc, but im running it with a hd4850 ATI gfx card (has hdmi) and was curious about what type of monitor to buy, (for gaming) should i buy a hdtv, or a lcd monitor? and which would be a decent choice for gaming?
