How will Yedda make money?
Rejected slogan #235:
Actually, you might be surprised to know that I think that the Amazon book links actually add value to the user experience. We put a lot of effort into trying to make sure that the books you get are as relevant as possible to your question. Believe it or not, there's actually a lot of valuable knowledge in books.
The search for people who can answer your question continues for as long as needed - until you find the answer you were looking for.
When an answer is posted by someone who was invited (byYedda or by yourself) to answer your question, their answer is marked with a yellow "invited by Yedda".
To be invited to answer other people's questions in your areas of knowledge and interest, be sure to list your favorite topics:
» My Settings My Topics.
Of course, the more helpful your answers are, the more likely you are to be invited to future questions...
Robblat, just a small correction - Yedda does not own the content we post. You own your content (duh!), and by posting on Yedda, two things happen:
there are a lot of websites who will pay for ad in this site, if there is a lot of people visiting "yedda", they will make more money...
We'll be making money by making sure that you're getting the best possible experience when looking for knowledge or when sharing your knowledge.
What can we do to make your experience better?
gullefjun, I don't know about the shiny happy google ads, we put them there because... hmm... well, it seems that everybody else got them, so we figured they're some sort of technical requirement for them web applications!
Oh:
Improving Yedda: http://yedda.com/questions/Improving_Yedda_1869149124114
I think Yedda could make money by selling the template of its database to portals which maintain heavy traffic forums. (I am not sure "the template of its database" is the right term but that doesn't change the point of my suggestion.)
It didn't take me much time to see that a service of the kind of Yedda solves virtually all the problems inherent in the classic internet forums.
If I were to build a web based service and I wanted to implement a system allowing the users of my service to share their comments, opinions, suggestions, questions, etc, I would definitely choose a system of the kind of Yedda to a forum. Just think of the potential of this, implemented to professional forums like www.proz.com/kudoz where users exchange knowledge meant to be transformed into money.
What do you think? Could one really make money on the transition of internet forums to services like Yedda?
drabsv,
In fact, web sites that would like to use the Yedda service to enable their users to exchange knowledge can do that right away, by using the Yedda Widgets.
When added to a web site (or a blog), the Yedda widgets can be customized for a specific context using one or more topics. So, for example, a web site like www.proz.com which you've mentioned would probably choose "translation, languages, linguistics" as its topics. This will cause the FAQ widgets to display Q&As related to these topics, and the Ask widget to suggest topics in this area.
Of course, more elaborate integrations can be created by working directly with Yedda and its APIs, but this would be a quick way to experiment with this.
From the shiny happy google ads on every page, I suppose
So 12 posts and 1 day later my question is still unanswered (unless of course you expect us to belive that books and google ads will really make you money?)
Best of luck to you anyway, Yedda.
