can companies remove money from direct deposit accounts once deposited without notifying an employee
Not legally. Most likely they would short your next direct deposit. A direct deposit account is a legally binding financial transaction between your company and the bank which manages your account. It can't be undone on a whim.
I think it really depends on what are the circumstances are but after deposited they cant touch the money.
