Is my mom's house haunted?

My Mom just told me that in the middle of the night, for no reason, her smoke detector will go off.  This happened about 10 times, all during the night.  So we thought the battery was going dead and put in a BRAND NEW 9-volt.  It still happened again. I thought the smoke detector was broken, so we took it down again, and took the new battery out.  We forgot to put it back up...and in the middle of the night, the smoke detector went off with no battery in it while on the kitchen table.  How can that happen?  Even if the smoke detector is faulty, how can it beep without a battery.  I'm pretty sure there isn't a backup battery in it, so my question is this:  My mom thinks her house is haunted and a ghost/spirit is setting the detector off.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Sometimes we put up walls not to keep people out, but to see who cares enough to break them down.

I would go buy a new smoke detector.  They are fairly cheap and it sounds like the one you have might be defective.  Hopefully it will not beep and will bring some comfort to your mom. It is strange that this is only happening at night.

First, try a higher quality smoke detector.  If it continues to happen, what time does it go off? You said that your Mom thinks it is a ghost. Is there other reasons that makes her feel that way? It also could be a warning from a spirit that cares about her. Maybe she should get a carbon monoxide detector too. Carefully examine your Mom's home for any fire hazards. You can probably have the local fire dept. inspect her home for her safety too. I deal with the spirit world, and for some reason I feel she is being warned by a spirit that cares deeply for her. Have her house checked out. Blessings to you and your Mom, Tiger

Rena,  The smoke detector will go on and off when the battery is getting low.  Have mom change the battery.

Greetings!  While it certainly seems to be an interesting phenomena and may point to the paranormal, are there any other experiences that your mum can relate to other than this smoke detector?  As to the history of the house, is it old?  Is it on land that was once something else, i.e. Native American sacred space?  Is this house built on the foundation of a previous home?  Is it on a fault line?  All of these are questions that need to be answered prior to looking at further testing to say whether a place is haunted or not.

Certainly, I think I would start with getting a new smoke detector and seeing if the same thing happens.   You can then rule out a faulty detector.  If it happens, see if whatever is setting off the detector can make it go off on request.  This could be indicative of an intelligent type of haunt, i.e the entity wants to communicate with you or, in this case, your mum.  Regardless, it doesn't sound like this is trying to hurt anybody.  However, a quick solution is that if it goes off in the middle of the night, just tell it to stop it.  They generally respond.  There could be a reason why this is occurring all of a sudden as well.  Are there any issues with the house that need attending to?  Many, many reasons.

Hi Sometime the supernautral has it own energy field. I think you need to do some investigating where she lives. I like who lived there before here. Was they something there before they built that house. Was there any violent crimes there? You need to do some investigation work before you think it maybe haunted it. There is always a reason for everything you just need to look for it. If you want to try to get an response from a ghost get an digital camera take multi pics in the same location while asking is there any one there and can they make a noise to let you know they are there. Also get a voice recorder to see if you can pick a voice. You need to place you pics on the computer to get a better look at them, so see more on the computer. Try this this first and get back with me.

just because you can't see it, doesn't mean you can't believe it.

hello! my name is Sam Michaels. I'm in a paranormal group similar 2 the ones u would see on TV. my opinion is that what is going on is called a intelligent haunting. what you should do is place a video camera next to the smoke detector and see if you catch anything. Let me know if you do. My email is xoxosamrocksxoxo@aim.com. GOOD LUCK!!!
