Purchased a mirrow that is 5'7" long and want to hang it in dining room. The sideboard is 5' long. The dining room is 13' long and the dining table is 9' long and 46" wide. Have I created a decorating no-no having the mirrow longer than the sideboard?
1. Center the sideboard under the mirror (symetric)
2. Push sideboard to left or right edge of mirror; place large vase or small table or chair, etc. in empty space to complete the wall design (assymetric)
I always liked the mirrow inside of the sideboard about 5 inches on each end or even with the bevel (flat part of top before drop off) on the sideboard top. You can always find a mirror r have one cut r yours shortened. To work with what you have, center the sideboard under the mirror and do your normal placement of what ever you are going to use on the top. A good center piece with take the wandering eye to the center and not the edges. 3 1/2 inches is a lot of over hang. Beat the bushes and get a mirror that fits.
Need more info. What are all the dimensions of the mirror? Can it be placed laying flat on the table to reflect the light fixture? Can it go directly across to the other side of the room creating a balance of visual weight? These are just a few questions that I want like you to ponder.....
