I seriously doubt it. If it happens, I think I will lose all faith in the American antitrust authorities.

Why? Antitrust has no problems with two large competitors like Google and Micorosoft. I don't see here any monopoly.

Microsoft probably wants Yahoo to strengthen its not so hot MSN unit. It now started the whole live.com brand so that might attract a few more people.

Yahoo is a lot stronger on the web (even without including search), and are not that MS friendly (Yahoo's platforms are running Linux in most cases) and I doubt they'll start moving to MS platform.

Eventually, it all boils down to the share holders and their confidence is Yahoo. If they think Yahoo can and will succeed they won't sell. If they think otherwise, they'll sell, get their cash and go find another adventure somewhere else.

No, Yahoo! wouldn't sale itself to Microsoft. Why? Yahoo! has acquired too many companies lately to give up and sale it self away. Yahoo wants to be on top again. The company know it can’t do that under Microsoft control.

Ok, lets talk buisness:

Curent yahoo market capitalization: 36 billions $ http://finance.google.com/finance?q=YHOO

Current Microsoft Cash: 36 billions $http://finance.google.com/finance?fstype=bi&cid=358464

Hardly do I believe that Yahoo shareholders will refuse to proposal of 50 billions $. Half of them maybe payed with cash and the rest with stocks. Microsoft will remain with about 10 billlions, which doesn't make any problem (they are profitable company for decades).

Although Yahoo server run non-Windows, that not too important here, since MS buys them mostly not for technology, but for market share and wide range of services, including all the flickr, del.icio.us, widgets etc.
