Unfortunately your parents do not have a full picture of the engineering world and are a little too influenced by newspaper and magazines where electronic engineering is more promoted. You need to do a little research to prepare a marketing program promoting mechanical engineering. To start, for example, electric windows in an auto seem to the layman to be totally electronic but there are actually more mechanical parts than electronic. An electronic engineer cannot design an airplane. Show your parents the many opportunities available in mechanical engineering to bring them to your side. Good Luck!!

Hi, Had the same doubts when I've started studying 2 years ago. Eventually I chose electronics because the market demand seemed much higher and it still does. I can't advise you from personal experience, and that's because I have non, nevertheless, some say, that an electronics engineer may take on some mechanical jobs but the opposite isn't true. As for now, 2 years to go. and lot's of math and physics. I'd be happy to share some thoughts, if you'd like.

Do the course you feel you have the ability and interest to deal with now.  But, you should also consider your parents' wish. Think about it seriously, they may have observed something in your behavior and attitude which influenced their decision. They may be looking at the bigger picture which eludes you at this time. Have discussions with your parents, and try to win them over if you feel so strongly about it. Perhaps you could ask a relative or friend to point out the long term benefits in terms of job opportunities and financial returns.
