Mr. Freund, I live in Southern California and visited Israel in May, 2007. It was one of, and perhaps other than my decision to follow Jesus, my marriage, and the births of my sons (sadly we had no daughters), the greatest spiritual experience of my life. We went as far north as the Golan Heights, to sites around the Galilee, to the Jordan River, the Dead Sea, Jerusalem, and even Bethlehem where the spirutual oppression was very sad. I pray for the peace of Jerusalem regularlty in my prayers and support Israel politically. I believe God has promised that land to the Jewish people. I would like to apologize for some of our current President's remarks in Egypt recently. I do not agree with him. The question I have is what offends you about the statue in Prague? I cannot tell from the story if it is the history (which I understand), or the mere inscription (concerning which I would disagree with you). As you seem implicitly to understand, as a Christian, I believe that the inscription is true about Jesus. I know that you probably consider that to be blasphemous but I, to the contrary, believe that I must state that it is not blasphemous, in order to honor and obey the Jewish man who is (not was) my savior. Please understand that, as Christians, our intent is not to offend. In fact, virtually all of us were once offended by such things although probably for different reasons than you. I would not be offended by Jewish symbols and biblical inscriptions in Israel, or a predominantly Jewish area of another country, with which I disagreed. Please understand that there is likely no ill will intended by the people in Prague (at least I would hope not). Mark Sutton (email: sutmls@aol.com)
