I'm no mechanic - had this years ago - it was the universal joint.

I really need more information but the following could be causes

1) Worn universal joint on front wheel drive cars

2) worn or damaged steering/ suspension part allowing wheel to rub against body or chassis

3) Worn wheel bearing

4) Play in wheel bearing allowing brake pads to contact rust on disc pad

5) Sub-frame loose allowing front wheels and engine etc to move
